GHD is looking for a Senior Solid Waste Design Engineer to join the Solid Waste team in our flagship office in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. You would join our North American solid waste group of 80 professionals. We are seeking a technically strong solid waste designer to grow into a leader within our team. A core component of GHD's business is solid waste management projects. As a full-service engineering and environmental firm, we are able to provide complete waste management solutions. Solid waste management is a multi-disciplinary field and engineering is a major component of the majority of our solid waste projects.-- For this position, we anticipate that the selected candidate will provide facility design and construction support related to waste processing technologies for waste, recyclables, and organics.-- Responsibilities: Technical lead for solid waste projects for clients requiring waste processing facility design and construction support, related to waste processing technologies for waste, recyclables, and organics Identify technical resource needs and coordinate with design and project managers Collaborate with the design team and other subject areas to develop, lead, and deliver design projects and facilitate decision making related to design, the choice of process, and day-to-day challenges Prepare technical reports and complete peer reviews of designs completed by others in the Solid Waste group including cost estimates and construction contract documents Support of construction activities including review of submittals and shop drawings, evaluation of proposals, payments, and change orders, periodic fieldwork and travel including construction inspection and contractor liaison/oversight Effectively communicate and connect with existing and prospective clients Provide mentorship and leadership to the Solid Waste team Communicate and work with multi-discipline project team members to provide quality services to clients to ensure that all documentation conforms to client/company standards Participation in client and internal design, progress, and project team meetings Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications Civil Engineer or related field Must be eligible for Professional Engineer designation in Canada or the United States Broad project or design engineering experience in the Solid Waste sector (minimum of 10 years expected) Previous experience with the design and operations of waste processing facilities for waste, recyclables, and organics Familiarity with wastewater treatment technologies is considered an asset Self-starter, flexible, great teammate, willing and able to work on a wide variety of tasks Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills Excellent written and verbal communication abilities Understanding of design software such as Autodesk and AutoCad Civil 3D or similar tools Construction and design implementation experience required Multi-discipline design experience is considered an asset We offer an opportunity to be part of a growing and dynamic employee owned company, a professional working environment with career development potential, flexible hours and a competitive salary package based on qualifications, skills and experience in a privately held, quality driven and client focused company.-- As a multicultural organization, we encourage individual achievement and recognize the strength of a diverse workforce.
