are looking to hire a Lead Paramedic! As a Lead Paramedic at
MercyOne , you will p rovide professional care for acutely ill and
injured patients incorporating the education and skills of a
certified paramedic, for all age groups in a ground ambulance,
pre-hospital, and hospital environment ( emergency and critical
care). Is guided by Mercy Ambulance Protocols or direct medical
control. Serves as a preceptor for new employees, chairs standing
committees, and works with management staff to provide quality
assurance on patient transports. Essential Functions:
- Participate in the hiring, training, and evaluation of staff
assigned to areas of responsibility.
- Serve as a direct resource and mentor for employees within the
department.
- Act as a Field Training Preceptor for new employees with
various certification levels.
- Assist in the formulation and implementation of department
goals.
- Chair and actively participate in Standing Department
Committees.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency
standards.
- Perform initial and ongoing subjective and objective
assessments of patients with complex healthcare needs in the
pre-hospital and hospital environments (emergency and critical
care).
- Implement interventions and treatments consistent with Mercy
Ambulance protocols and/or medical on-line direction, documenting
response to care and treatments.
- Collaborate with the patient, significant others, rescue
personnel, and outlying hospital personnel to create a
multidisciplinary healthcare team focused on providing continuous
and well-coordinated care.
- Actively participate in evaluating and ensuring safety in and
around the ambulance, reporting any safety concerns or
recommendations to the Program Manager and/or Supervisors.
- Educate others in safe practices around the ambulance through
both formal and informal presentations.
- Check and maintain all medical equipment, supplies, and
medications for patient care daily.
- Assist specialty transport personnel.
- Provide patient care and interventions in the hospital and
Emergency Department consistent with the scope of practice,
responding to medical emergencies and Rapid Response requests for
inpatient issues.Marginal Functions:
- Work with staff to identify opportunities for process
improvement and implement changes.
- Recommend additions, improvements, and revisions in standards
of care.
- Participate in equipment inventory and ordering, uniform
inventory, and the planning of education activities.Minimum
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- High school diploma or high school equivalency preferred.
- Current certification as a Paramedic (PM) in the State of Iowa
with Critical Care Endorsement.
- Minimum of 3 years of recent, full-time experience functioning
as a critical care paramedic providing direct patient care.
- Demonstrated proficiency with advanced airways, ventilators,
and other medical equipment.
- Experience in the care and transport of pediatric
patients.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider
certification, or certification obtained within three (3) months of
hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include
American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required
prior to employment with Mercy Ambulance and must maintain current
certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, or
certification obtained within six (6) months of hire.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training
specific to the population served within three (3) months of
hire.
- Valid driver's/Chauffeur's License required, with the ability
to meet Mercy's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Must be at least 18
years of age and eligible to drive per Iowa state law. Colleagues
