Job Title: Transportation Superintendent
Iowa Northern Railway has an immediate opening for a Transportation Superintendent. This is a full-time position and includes a comprehensive benefit package. Iowa Northern is an equal opportunity employer.

Iowa Northern Railway is locally owned and operated. Our employees live and work in the communities we serve. Iowa Northern was formed in 1984 on a section of the old Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad Company. The line runs diagonally through Iowa northwest to southeast from Manly to Cedar Rapids. Iowa Northern has three direct Class 1 interchanges and a short line interchange. With all these connections our customers have access to all Class 1 railroads and the entire North American network.

What are we looking for?
The Transportation Superintendent plans, prioritizes, and creates strategy for the daily rail operations and long-term plans of Iowa Northern Railway. Responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day operations of the railroad which include safe operation of the trains, customer service, dispatching, providing service required to meet the demands of the customer/operations on a daily or as needed basis. Ensures the safety of crews and meets operational and financial goals.

The ideal candidate has over 10 years of railroad operating experience with 5+ years of management experience. Qualified candidates must possess and maintain valid certification as a locomotive engineer under a certification program approved by the FRA. Additional qualifications include considerable knowledge of FRA regulations regarding the operation and maintenance of a railroad including: track safety standards, hours of service, locomotive inspection, air brakes, safety appliances, railroad car inspection, and hazardous materials regulations as well as knowledge of railroad infrastructure inspection and maintenance. Must have the ability to deal effectively with customers, other railroad employees, railroad officials, and the general public.

Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. The Transportation Superintendent is subject to random alcohol and drug testing per the Federal Railroad Administration Guidelines. Pre-employment background check, physical and drug screen required.
